Jason the owner was the best. He treated me terrific and even cut me a nice deal. I recommend this place plus it's super cool on the inside.

Great service, I came to buy precious metals, and although they are more of a jewelry store, they still had an impressive selection of Silver and Gold!

It disheartens me to be writing this review as the experience with University Coin & Jewelry. It comes with great sadness and discouragement regarding what the human race is capable of. A family heirloom pocket watch was left with the owner Jason Wrasse for repair. All seemed well and good. For a while. Then too much time had passed.  So, inquiries into the piece begin. That is where Jason’s storyline becomes distrustful. It was always some excuse. Where the piece was, what was being worked on. He then tried to pass off a counterfeit piece. A piece that was not the same piece as the original piece. It was identifiably not the piece turned in. Thankfully, there was proof it was not the same piece from an old repair indicating the serial number on the original piece. It was felt Jason was trying to avoid facing reality.  Either the original piece was lost, or he flat out stole it. That is unclear. He did try and pay it off since he could not produce it. Was that supposed to be compensation? You can’t replace sentimental value. Jason became apprehensive and basically accepted no responsibility. Who raised a kid like this? How is this acceptable? At least had Jason been honest and owned whatever truly happened from the beginning it might have been a little better. It is amazing this place even survives with such a business practice and a distrustful person in charge. We tell everyone about this. Terrible business.

I am a relatively new customer, but I have only had top notch experience here. I've been collecting silver coins for a few months now and stupidly overlooked this store in favor of area competitors. I was talking to a friend who also collects silver coins and he suggested not even bothering with other stores. Every time I stop in, I am more convinced. Jason seems to always give a fair deal, so I also don't check other shops with any regularity anymore. Update: I am still a weekly customer and have been very impressed with how professionally Jason and team have handled the silver and gold markets being turned on their heads, refineries have completely changed policies making it difficult for coin shops to buy and lock in prices like they once did and Silver and Gold prices have been more volatile than ever in history in recent months. I see a couple of recent negative reviews here and I ask people to remember what the gold has silver market has been doing. Imagine how hard it must be to be to run a business under these conditions. Either pay the premium and wait your turn or don't, but don't unnecessarily add to an already stressful situation for a small business owner just trying to do the best he can for himself and his employees. Jason and team, the vast majority of us appreciate you and how fair you are in all of your dealings.

We recently came in with a family estate collection. I wasn’t going to leave a review originally because the owner can be seen responding to other reviews telling people to “insert bad word here” off in addition to other terrible non-professional responses. However, whatever he has to say is worth the public knowing he also acts this way in person. He stunk of booze and was overall mean. He stated he’d offer me a price as he slammed around the collection or I could just go to another recommended shop. I decided based on his attitude and not sure if I was dealing with someone impaired I should go elsewhere.

I swear this is one of the funnest places in town to pop into. This is my second time working with Kathy over the past couple months. This time I earned $140.00 for a random ring that was too small anyway! Definitely bring your stagnant jewelry to see if it's worth anything. I also brought a class ring here and got 350 for it. They have a very nice selection to shop, so why buy brand new when they can clean something up beautifully for you.

What a treasure of a shop! They have so many incredible items in this little space, from higher-end pieces of jewelry and watches to lower-end items I purchased lots of. The prices were great and many pieces were of very high quality. An extra shout out to the experts at this store. Got a ton of help exploring and finding items from Tony, along with a ton of great stories and conversation, then got some helpful info about stones and gold from Kathy, and Tim helped me remember that my wedding and engagement rings are actually pretty fancy if I would only have them cleaned and buffed once in a while! I had forgotten they looked like this! Thank you so much for your time, your expertise, and your company. I'm not the biggest jewelry person, but found it easy to spend a long time here. Excited to stop by again next time I'm in town.

Jason and Tim are fantastic guys to work with. You will absolutely get the fairest and highest prices for gold or silver in Madison without question. An absolute pleasure to work with these guys and talk with them etc. Thanks for everything. Stay awesome!

Great store and amazing people, HIGHLY recommend. I went in with my 2 teens and they took the time to describe their watches to my youngest who was looking for his first real watch. Lots of great finds and they’re honest people. Amazing customers too!! One ended up gifting a watch to my son who has barely taken it off since. What an incredible Christmas gift! ❤️
