Cottage Coins

I brought in 1917 silver dollar. The I guess owner. With the hat on just continued to set in his chair outside by the door smoking his cigarette while I stood at the counter waiting to be helped. After about 5-6 minutes he walked in with a attitude as if I was disturbing the smoke time. I showed the hat guy my dollar and he shrugged his shoulders as if I had trash to show . Offered me almost nothing for it.so I left and went to market street coins and got $30 for my silver dollar. This place is a absolute joke..

Great display of coins and great, knowledgeable and friendly service. If you don't see what you are looking for, ask. They have inventory not on display. If they don't have it, they will find it for you. Good and fair prices, and negotiable.

Stopped in here today for the first time. Had no idea there was a coin shop inside The Ivy Cottage. The gentleman was friendly, knowledgeable, and most of all, honest. I had a few coins I was considering selling. Had been to two other shops in town, and Cottage Coins was the only one to evaluate my coins, and pay based on Grey Sheet, not just offering melt. On top of that, the cash I received included a $2 red seal and $1 silver certificate. He also gave me a colorized Pennsylvania state quarter for my nephew when I said I had just given him a mint set for his birthday a few weeks ago. What a great experience!! I highly recommend checking this place out.

I spent the afternoon with Churchill. He helped me find tons of new types for my fledgling foreign coin collection. Churchill is honest, a great teacher, and had excellent prices alongside an amazing collection of foreign coins. I will definitely be back to visit every time I’m in Wilmington!

Not very impressed. I called over the holidays and hey told me that they usually buy silver American eagles $2 under spot price. Was impressed with that offer so I brought some in to sell and they told me that they are not “not entertaining buying silver American eagles”. Fair enough I guess. Never heard of a coin business not buying to sell coins but they did tell me that their inventory was too high at the moment. After my experience I read the reviews on this business and can see the perspectives of the one star reviews as somewhat accurate. I honestly think that they are being authentic and that authentic personality can be perceived as negative or lacking in the customer service department. I might have had a different experience as a buyer than a seller but I may not go back. I think 3 stars is reasonable, you may like the authenticity or you may find it disrespectful, only one way to find out!

Stopped in today solely because of the fantastic reviews. My Dad & I picked up a little gold & silver. Churchill was welcoming, informative, honest and a pleasure to purchase from. I highly recommend anyone in the area looking to invest in coins or precious metals to at the very least stop in. I will definitely be back to make future buys.

Another thing that stood out was how willing he was to share his knowledge, specifically regarding various ephemeral and historical banknotes.
