Why Track Your Collection

A digital inventory serves multiple purposes: insurance documentation, tracking spending and value, planning future purchases, and estate preparation. Every serious collector needs one.

Spreadsheets

Google Sheets or Excel works perfectly. Create columns for: Date, Denomination, Variety, Grade, Cert Number, Purchase Date, Purchase Price, Current Value, Dealer/Source, and Storage Location. Simple, flexible, and free.

Registry Sets

  • PCGS Set Registry — Track PCGS-graded coins, compete with other collectors, and build a public or private set. Free to use with a PCGS membership.
  • NGC Registry — Same concept for NGC-graded coins. Free to use.

Registry sets are motivating — seeing your completion percentage climb and comparing to other collectors adds gamification to the hobby.

Dedicated Apps

  • PCGS CoinFacts — Includes collection tracking features.
  • Coin Collection Manager — Dedicated inventory app with barcode scanning.
  • Numista — Especially good for world coins.

For Insurance

Photograph every coin (both sides), keep purchase receipts, and export your inventory regularly. Store a backup in the cloud or a safe deposit box.
