As soon as I arrived in NYC, I stumbled into this wonderful pawn shop with a lot of variety. That is the day I met Ray, a genuinely good guy and charismatic pawnbroker who showed me all of the inventory. Even though I didn’t buy anything that day, Ray was courteous polite and professional and treated me with unprecedented levels of diligence and care. A few days later I returned to purchase a jewelry piece. That day, I was greeted by both Ray and Ligia, a sweet lady whose expertise was apparent by the way she transacted business. Even though I only bought a small gold piece, Ligia explained to me the gold content and the quality of the piece I was buying, taking the time to research and test it for me. Because of these fine people, I will always make sure to visit GEM pawnshops whenever I return to NYC.

Often, much is said about how predatory pawn shop’s buying/trading practices can be. However, very little is said about the impeccable care and customer service one may experience as buyer. Last week, I had such an experience at GEM’s 8th Ave location! Jai not only speedily located my desired item, he also thoroughly tested it, and informed me of all the great deals related to my purchase. Speed, sincerely, and a smile. They went above and beyond—calling me personally, helping every step of the way, and treating my family like we were their own. My son’s reaction alone made my entire Christmas, and that’s something I’ll never forget. This group made it possible. I came back twice, and every single time, without exception, we were greeted with “welcome back.” That level of warmth and recognition is rare, especially in Manhattan. Out of everyone we met during our stay, this team was by far the kindest, most genuine group of people. They truly deserve your time and your trust. Take a look around—I promise you won’t regret it.
