Just met James & Katie at their new location in Huntington and their knowledge and expertise is as stellar as their patience and honesty. They take time to explain to me what I have and always give me the fairest offer. In the beginning, I brought my sterling and coins elsewhere to compare prices, but I now only go to them without hesitation. James works out of a lovely antique shop in Huntington (hard to tell, from the Google map photo). I recently made an appointment with him to review a collection of coins. I had done some research, and had a number in my head that I was hoping to get for my collection, and he was exactly in that ballpark. Another dealer was well under that amount, and made me feel like they didn’t want to spend the time looking at what I had, only wanted the silver at silver rates (even though I knew some of my pieces had more value than that) — more of a cold, pure transactional approach. They also had offered me sub-par pricing for my proof sets — less than half of what they were selling them for on their own website. I felt James gave me a fair price for all the different proof sets and wide variety of coins I had, and I appreciate that he bought not only the things which I imagine had lower profit margins for him, but also the things that the other dealer didn’t want to bother with. And even though he didn’t realize how big the collection I had was, without complaint he spent over two hours carefully going through every item I brought in, educating me about coin quality and rarity and the coin business. I’m not a coin expert, but I’ve watched a lot of “American Pickers” and can recognize when someone has a passion for collecting, like James does for coins — it just felt like I was dealing with a good person who loves what he does. So, do what I did — get some quotes with other dealers, then meet with James — I think you’ll appreciate the difference. I’d highly recommend him.
