I was browsing this antique shop, admiring the unique items for sale, when an older man, presumably the owner, approached me from behind the desk. Despite the fact that I had only been in the store for about 15-20 minutes, he accused me of lingering for over an hour, stating that most of his customers come and go quickly. He then told me I was wasting his time and preventing him from working in the back. I responded politely, expressing my appreciation for his collection, but he abruptly shifted the conversation, attempting to posture himself “an attempt to size me up” by him stating that he was “from the streets,” i quote; as if trying to intimidate me. Then, without any justification, he suggested that I might be in his store plotting something harmful. For context, I am an Army veteran on vacation, simply browsing. In an effort to de-escalate the situation, I calmly reiterated that I was there to admire his antiques and potentially make a purchase. However, he continued to be confrontational. At that point, I firmly but respectfully stated that I was leaving, and I walked out. I have faced combat situations overseas and dealt with all kinds of challenging encounters, but this interaction was nothing more than an example of blatant insecurity and unwarranted hostility. Given this experience, I strongly advise others to avoid this business and take their patronage elsewhere. Or if you choose to walk in, make sure you are there for a very short period of time or that tall guy will think your trying to commit an usurpation/hostile takeover lol… very weird,strange, kind of embarrassing and very unprofessional. I love supporting small businesses as well as local antique shops across the country. But for this specific shop, its best if you take your business elsewhere.
